Here's what went down:
Setting: A local park with our friends
Bear Cub is busily running around, checking things out as usual, which also means a quick peek in the trash can (Ewwww! Right?!? Not to him, apparently!)
BC runs up to me (I am chatting away with my friend) and says: There is a animal in the trash can!
Mommy: Ha, ha! (To my friend) - Doesn't he have a wild imagination? What kind of animal did you see? Is there a giraffe in there? How about a zebra?
Bear Cub (in a Sheesh, Mom! Don't be an idiot-kind-of-voice): There animal in there!
My friend: (as she's walking over to the trash can) Maybe there is an animal in there??
Seconds later, my friend is jumping around, yelling: Aaaagh! Oh my, oh my!! THERE IS A POSSUM IN THE TRASH CAN!!!
So, there you go...that's the last time I don't believe something that Bear Cub tells me!
Yes, indeed there was a poor possum in the trash can, curled up contently among some litter, not bothered at all by the strange people that have peered in to its haven. Oh my. We figured it must have climbed up the post to get in, but probably was having a hard time climbing out. Still a little creepy to see a critter like that out during the day. Hmmmm....I meant to call the county park services to warn them and get them to help, but I forgot.
Hope that poor little guy in there was ok. But I do know now that I'll look twice before I casually walk up to a park trash can to throw something away! Yikes!
Lesson learned: Listen to your 2 1/2 year old at all times.
Wild imaginations don't always equal wild made-up stories!
Yet another great story! I also enjoyed the post from Thursday...particularly where BC has the dog do the kickback in the grass! That is priceless and shows how much attention he pays to details!
